Andrey Chibis and Alexey Miller signed a program for the development of gas supply and gasification in the region for 2026-2030

Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, signed a program for the development of gas supply and gasification in the Murmansk Region for 2026-2030 in St. Petersburg today as part of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2025.

"Today is a historic event for the Murmansk Region: we have signed the first five-year gasification program for the region. This is a key stage that defines concrete steps and brings us closer to the start of the project "on earth". Without exaggeration, the gasification of the Murmansk region is a strategically important project for the entire Arctic zone of Russia. As our President noted, the Murmansk Region is developing dynamically today, and with the advent of gas, the region will receive additional opportunities for growth," said Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region.

Gazprom emphasized that the promising Volkhov–Murmansk main gas pipeline will become the basis for gasification of the Murmansk Region. Gazprom started the practical implementation of the project in 2025. According to the program, from the Volkhov –Murmansk gas pipeline, the company will design and begin construction of high-priority gas pipelines with gas distribution stations, inter-settlement and intra-settlement gas pipelines.

"It is important that gasification will optimize heating costs, modernize the energy infrastructure and improve the environmental situation in the region. I would like to thank Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for his support and the decision to gasify the region, as well as Alexey Borisovich Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and his team for their professional work in preparing the program," emphasized Andrey Chibis.

At the first stage, it will be possible to switch 24 regional heat supply facilities to mains gas. These include the Apatitskaya CHPP of TGC-1 PJSC, the largest thermal power plant in the region and the only supplier of heat in Apatity and Kirovsk, operating on imported coal; facilities of Murmanskaya CHPP JSC, boiler houses of Murmanenergosbyt JSC and Kola MMC JSC. They provide heat to residents and businesses in the cities of Apatity, Kirovsk, Monchegorsk, Murmansk and Kandalaksha, but Severomorsk.

It should be recalled that President Vladimir Putin made a decision to gasify the Murmansk Region from the unified gas supply system of the Russian Federation through the construction of a main gas pipeline. In July 2023, the President approved the gasification plan for the region, and in March 2025, at the International Arctic Forum in Murmansk, he stressed the importance of its timely implementation.
