Murmansk Regions transport and logistics capabilities were presented to Nizhny Novgorod companies

A business mission of the Murmansk Region Development Corporation has started in Nizhny Novgorod, dedicated to the exchange of experience in the field of investment activities. As part of the business mission, a meeting was held with Nizhny Novgorod companies dedicated to the development of cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Road Management of the Murmansk Region and the Murmansk Commercial Seaport.

Due to the development of the Northern Sea Route, today the expansion of the cargo base of the port of Murmansk is becoming one of the key tasks of the economic development of the Murmansk region. It is included in the strategic plan "To live in the North". Nizhny Novgorod, as an industrially developed region, is interested in finding new solutions for entering international markets. Cooperation with Nizhny Novgorod companies is being carried out jointly with the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation.

"The Murmansk region has a unique offer – direct access to the World Ocean, bypassing international straits. And thanks to the cooperation with the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation, the Murmansk Region government team began a dialogue. Based on the results of the trip, we see that there is interest in transportation along the Northern Sea Route, and we have taken applied issues into further study," said Artem Kuksa, General Director of the Murmansk Region Development Corporation.

The Murmansk region has all the necessary infrastructure for transshipment of almost any type of cargo. Murmansk Commercial Sea Port is a universal year–round navigation port with a total capacity of 24 million tons per year.

"We handle bulk and general cargo, including shipments via the Northern Sea Route. Last year, we handled three Cape Size and one Panamax class heavy cargo vessels with a total cargo capacity of 500,000 tons. In order to increase volumes, it is necessary, from our point of view, to stimulate cargo flow towards Murmansk, as well as to work on increasing the navigation period. Last year, we handled vessels from July to November," said Vladislav Yakovchuk, Commercial Director of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port.

In addition, as part of the business mission, representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation presented practices for working with investors in the region to the Murmansk Region delegation. In particular, the delegation got acquainted with the work on the creation of industrial and production buildings in the territory of the Kulibin special economic zone in Dzerzhinsk, the investment profiles of municipalities and the institute of territorial managers of the Corporation operating in all districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"We have already established close cooperation with the Murmansk Region Development Corporation, which has high potential in the field of logistics and industry. We plan to continue to establish contacts for the exchange of best practices," said Anton Garanin, Deputy General Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation.

In October 2024, the development agencies of the Nizhny Novgorod and Murmansk regions signed a cooperation agreement providing for the exchange of information and mutual advice on topical issues, as well as holding joint events.
