Today, on the third day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the key element of the business program was a plenary session, at which the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin spoke. The speech of the head of state was commented on by the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis.
In his speech, Vladimir Putin noted that the country had successfully overcome the difficulties of last year: unemployment and inflation are close to historical lows. This stability, Putin noted, has become Russia's competitive advantage.
Measures of state support of the economy should be associated with increasing the salaries of employees, improving working conditions and providing new social packages. Another direction is the growth of investments, it is necessary to achieve their inflow into key industries.
"We will continue to build and update infrastructure facilities: roads and railways, overpasses, bridges. We will continue to expand bottlenecks – of course, we also have enough of them, increasing the capabilities of seaports will be the focus of our attention," the President promised.
Vladimir Putin also noted that it is planned to increase the volume of cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route, which is now actively developing.
"Last year, 34 million tons of cargo passed through it. We expect that in the next year, 2024, the volume of such traffic will multiply, which requires the same advanced development of the railway and other infrastructure of the Murmansk transport hub and other Arctic ports," the head of state stressed.
The Northern Sea Route provides new opportunities for the Arctic regions, including Murmansk, which is the base port for its development.
"The Murmansk transport hub is one of the most important elements of the Northern Sea Route, and the Murmansk Region is showing growth in all key indicators that are designated by the President. The new tools announced by the President – we are starting to work on them," commented Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region.
