The combination of natural and landscape diversity with industrial facilities and landscapes and rich history are excellent prerequisites for the development of natural and industrial tourism in the Pechenga district.
Industrial tourism, which is gaining popularity all over the world, is practically not developed in the Murmansk region. Despite the fact that the territory of the region is home to a large number of operating and already discontinued industrial enterprises.
The development of industrial tourism in the region can begin with the reconstruction of the preserved complex "Kola Superdeep borehole", located 12 km from Zapolyarny and, which closed at the end of 2020 in the Nickel settlement of the smelting workshop of JSC Kola MMC. Interactive educational centers can be created on the basis of these facilities, telling about geology, mining and metallurgy. The Kaula – Kotselvaara mine of Kola MMC JSC may become a promising object of industrial tourism.
Currently, work is underway to create the Valla-Tunturi project, which can become an "anchor" tourist attraction of the Pechengsky shopping mall. The project assumes the creation of an extensive tourist infrastructure on the territory of the natural complex of the Rybachy and Sredny peninsulas and in its vicinity. The facilities will include a hotel complex, a tourist village, a glamping network, hiking trails and organized places for fishing and diving, highways.
