Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region and Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region, took part in the opening of a new technological installation at the Kola MMC in the city of Monchegorsk. This environmental initiative of the company is aimed at reducing the impact of production on the environment.

The production was equipped with a three-layer contact device, modern gas superchargers, purification towers and filters. The equipment is designed for the next ten years of stable operation with minimal repair costs. KGMC specialists have completed the construction and started comprehensive commissioning work. Investments in the project amounted to 8.6 billion.

The Vice Governor noted the importance of the environmental initiative and presented letters of thanks from the head of the region to the company's employees involved in the implementation of the project.

"The implementation of such projects demonstrates the company's responsible attitude towards the territory of its presence, their willingness not only to work towards achieving production targets, but also to think about the future of the Kola Arctic," said Svetlana Panfilova.

The completion of the construction of the fourth line of the sulfuric acid division was a logical continuation of the large-scale environmental transformations at the Kola MMC. In 2025, an updated gas purification system was launched at the same site in Monchegorsk, which additionally reduces sulfur dioxide emissions by 1,000 tons annually.

"The implementation of this project in tandem with the upgrade of the gas purification system has a significant effect on improving the environmental safety of the region. Thanks to the consistent implementation of such initiatives since 2015, we have managed to achieve a reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions by more than 85%, and the ongoing modernization of production facilities supports this positive trend," said Roman Sharky, CEO of Kola MMC.

Andrey Butkevich, a participant of the Heroes of the North program, visited the production site in Monchegorsk together with the Deputy Governor. Severyanin is undergoing an internship at the Ministry of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region, and in 2023 he was awarded the Order of Courage.
"The Kola MMC is an example of how an industry can be high–tech and environmentally friendly at the same time. Such projects are changing the perception of modern manufacturing in the North – everything is made for people," said Andrei Butkevich.
