One of the points of the program of the working trip of the Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov to the Murmansk region was a visit to the industrial site of NOVATEK-Murmansk LLC in Belokamenka. Accompanied by the general director of the enterprise, Pyotr Oborin, and the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, the minister inspected the docks where the creation of gravity-type bases for floating liquefied natural gas plants is being carried out, workshops under construction and other facilities of the Center for the Construction of Large-capacity Offshore Structures.
"The scale of the project is amazing. The volumes of gas that will allow the liquefaction of industrial plants created here will change the global energy balance, increase the environmental friendliness of the global energy system, since gas is a much more environmentally friendly fuel. We are talking about the possibility of adding several tens of millions of tons of LNG to the global balance sheet. And what is very important – 17,000 people will work here permanently, which will bring a significant improvement in the welfare of the Murmansk Region – " Alexey Chekunkov commented on his impressions. – Andrey Vladimirovich and I are just discussing how to make Murmansk the global capital of the North, and not just the Russian Arctic. And just this industrial feat that is happening here is the main answer to the question of how to achieve this. We will support this project with all the resources and capabilities of the Government of the Russian Federation."
In turn, Andrey Chibis emphasized the huge social significance of the project for the region.
"This project, on the one hand, already brings us additional taxes to our budget, and we spend this money on roads, medicine and landscaping. And secondly, thanks to the additional social support of NOVATEK, we are now modernizing the education system, helping hospitals and sports. This is money that right now makes the life of northerners much more comfortable and cozy," the governor stressed.
The center for the construction of large-capacity offshore structures is part of NOVATEK's single Arktik SPG2 project, the successful implementation of which will increase the share of Russian LNG in the global market to 15% by 2025. The new center has no analogues not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the world. NOVATEK-Murmansk LLC is the anchor investor and the first resident of the advanced development territory "Capital of the Arctic", and the investment project is a strategic investment project of the Murmansk region.
