Andrey Chibis presented the Murmansk Region gasification project as part of the Energy Day at the Russia Exhibition and Forum

Energy Day is taking place on February 20 at the International Exhibition and Forum "Russia". The key event of the business program of the industry day was the plenary session "Leadership and Sustainability of Russian Energy", which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak, as well as heads of regions, including the Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis.

During the plenary session, experts spoke about the significant achievements of recent years in the energy sector, as well as discussed issues of sustainable development of the industry in certain regions and the country as a whole.

"Energy today is one of the key sectors of the Russian economy, and the production of liquefied natural gas is one of the strategically important areas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has set a goal to reach the level of liquefied natural gas production of at least 100 million tons per year by 2035. This is an ambitious task. So, last summer, the President of the Russian Federation made a decision on the gasification of the Murmansk region, within the framework of which a gas pipeline will be laid and a cluster for the production of liquefied natural gas "Murmansk LNG" with a capacity of 20 million tons per year will be built. This will be a powerful impetus for the development of our country," Alexander Novak said.

At the plenary session "Leadership and Sustainability of the Russian Energy Industry", the Governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, presented the project of gasification of the region – one of the most important achievements, which was translated into practice thanks to the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Andrey Chibis stressed that the decision made it possible to launch the construction of a marine liquefied natural gas transshipment complex, which will help to increase the efficiency of logistics and competitiveness in the global LNG project market, as well as increase the cargo turnover potential of the Northern Sea Route.

"We are proud that, thanks to the support of our President, the Murmansk region has become one of the centers of competence for the implementation of LNG projects. In record time, we managed to build from scratch a unique "factory for the construction of factories" that can move on water to anywhere in the world. Last summer, Vladimir Putin launched the shipment of the first technological gas liquefaction line along the Northern Sea Route to the place of operation on the Gydan Peninsula. It weighs 640 thousand tons and is the heaviest movable object in the history of the global LNG industry," the head of the region said.

Andrei Chibis also recalled that the historically important decision on the gasification of the region, adopted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, provides for the construction of a main gas pipeline from Volkhov to Murmansk with a total length of about 1.3 thousand km. The implementation of the project, which acquired global proportions in 2023, will create more than 20 thousand jobs and will be a powerful impetus to the economic development of the Murmansk region.

"As part of the gasification of the region, the construction of two new power units of the Kola NPP-2 will begin. In addition, in order to connect the plant to the electric networks, Rosseti will build a power line with a total length of 360 km in the Murmansk region and a new main substation. As a result of gasification, it will be possible to solve the problem of fuel oil dependence in the region, as well as launch large investment projects in the field of deep processing of minerals, which are mined in large volumes in the Murmansk region. I would like to once again thank Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Government of the Russian Federation and personally Alexander Valentinovich Novak for supporting our projects. The prospects that the gasification of the region will give us will stretch forward for decades," summed up the governor Andrey Chibis.

As part of the thematic program of the Energy Day at the International Exhibition and Forum "Russia", the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, will also take part in a meeting of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak with students in the format of "Dialogue on equal terms" and a tour of the pavilion exposition.
