Creation of a world-class campus in Murmansk discussed in Moscow

A working meeting between Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, took place in Moscow. The main topic of the talks was the fulfillment of the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the creation of a modern world-class campus in our region.

"As our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin noted, in the next decades Russia will grow in the Arctic and the northern territories. And I am confident that with the support of the head of state, the federal government, and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, we will create an advanced world-class campus at Murmansk Arctic University. Let me remind you that such an instruction appeared following the results of the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum," Andrei Chibis emphasized.

Thus, the world-class campus is one of the key facilities included in the master plans of the supporting agglomerations. The project provides for the construction of facilities with a total area of at least 49 thousand square meters. Over 14 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for these purposes, which will allow the construction of three new facilities: a teaching and laboratory building with an area of 15 thousand square meters, a scientific and educational center with 10,000 square meters and a 1,200-bed student hotel with an area of 24 thousand square meters. At the expense of the regional budget and extra-budgetary sources, it is planned to build a sports and recreation complex and a Coastal training center, which has already been installed. The total investment in this part of the project will amount to about 2.5 billion rubles. In addition, 300 million rubles were received from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia for the creation of the Arctic Center for Marine Engineering Developments.

"Our main mission is to train personnel and create technologies for the development of our Russian Arctic. The creation of the campus is aimed at ensuring Russia's leadership in the Arctic zone, ensuring its sovereignty, developing the strategic resource base, the Northern Sea Route, and improving the quality of life of Northerners. I am confident that together we will be able to create a unique educational cluster for training personnel needed by the economy of the Arctic regions and the whole country," Andrey Chibis emphasized.

It should be recalled that the construction of a world–class campus of Murmansk Arctic University is one of the priority development projects of the Murmansk Region, which is being implemented as part of the national Youth and Children project. The work is planned in two stages: in 2025-2027, the territory will be prepared and designed, and in 2027-2030, construction and installation work and equipment will take place. The campus will become the basis for training specialists in three key areas: the Northern Sea Route, Arctic Mineral Resources, and Arctic Bioresources and Biotechnologies.

Additionally, during the meeting, the parties agreed to allocate funds for the overhaul of the Murmansk Marine Fisheries College named after Montsyantsev. Plans to repair and modernize the laboratory buildings of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences were also discussed. The head of the region noted that this issue will be worked out in detail in the near future.
