Investment digest: The relevance of traffic development through Murmansk is increasing

The Murmansk Region Development Corporation presented a digest of events that had a positive impact on the investment attractiveness of the region in February 2023. The collection is published monthly on the Investment Portal of the Murmansk Region and includes news related to the implementation of investment projects, as well as expert opinions and analytical data.

In February, a meeting of the State Council for Ensuring Transport, Logistics and Socio-economic Development of the Russian Arctic was held in the Murmansk Region for the first time. The meeting was chaired by Governor Andrey Chibis and was of a visiting nature: at the site of one of the largest investment projects in the Arctic, the Center for the Construction of Large-capacity Offshore structures. The participants and experts highly appreciated the results of the meeting, noting the importance that Murmansk and the Northern Sea Route are acquiring in the new reality.


"Russia should use other areas of maritime communications, in connection with which the urgency of traffic development through Murmansk increases," political scientist Dmitry Solonnikov commented on the results of the State Council meeting.

Also in February, Andrey Chibis held a meeting of the Coordinating Council for the Integrated Development of the Murmansk transport hub. Currently, work on the construction of the Lavna sea terminal and the launch of working railway traffic to the western shore of the Kola Bay is proceeding according to schedule.

At the same time, an expert group of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus worked in the Murmansk region, which, within the framework of a three-day visit, considered promising sites for the creation of port infrastructure, features of navigation in the waters of the port of Murmansk, as well as the possibilities of the Oktyabrskaya Railway for the delivery of Belarusian goods and cargo, taking into account the integrated development of the Murmansk transport hub and increasing the carrying capacity of the railway. The experts received comprehensive information necessary for further development of the project to answer all the questions.

In February, it became known that residents of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and the territory of advanced development "Capital of the Arctic" have already invested more than 170 billion rubles in the economy. In addition, the Murmansk Region continues to attract new residents. Last month, the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation was replenished with four new residents from the Murmansk region – the number of projects implemented using Arctic preferences increased to 188, and the planned volume of investments as a result of their implementation exceeded 151.5 billion rubles. New residents plan to implement projects in Murmansk, Monchegorsk and Murmash.
