President Vladimir Putin supported the project to create an MTU

At a meeting of the Strategic Planning Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the importance of creating the Murmansk transport hub as soon as possible in order to successfully solve national tasks.

"Without removing from the agenda our projects such as the accelerated modernization of the Murmansk transport hub, the deepening and expansion of the fairways of the most important river arteries, the construction of the Northern Latitudinal Course," Vladimir Putin commented.

Governor Andrey Chibis thanked the President for supporting the strategically important facility for the whole country and noted that the funds allocated by the Government of the Russian Federation for the development of the Murmansk transport hub will contribute to the emergence of more than 1,800 new jobs, and the transshipment of the port of Murmansk will increase by 18 million tons per year.

"We will start the construction of the MTU in early 2023. According to the roadmap, we are straying in a regular format with First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. And let me remind you that the anchor element of the MTU — the Lavna port — is already half built. Thank you to the President for his personal attention to this strategically important project for the whole country," Andrei Chibis stressed.

As the Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region Olga Kuznetsova notes, during the work with the Federal Government, in terms of continuing the construction of the Murmansk transport hub, the creation of the necessary infrastructure for key projects that are currently being built on the Western Shore of the Kola Bay has begun.

"All these projects need the necessary infrastructure, first of all it is electricity. Due to the fact that there is not enough of it on the west bank, we have done a lot of work with the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic on the construction of a nutrition center," Olga Kuznetsova said.

A decision has already been made to implement the energy infrastructure and 4.2 billion rubles have been received. In addition, 1.3 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal infrastructure menu for the construction of a water pipeline under the Kola Bay. The project is already in a high degree of readiness. By the time the continuation of the construction of the railway was launched, the regional government had taken the necessary measures to create infrastructure for the speedy implementation of projects.

It is worth noting that the continuation of the construction of the Murmansk transport hub for the region is a key decision. This will stimulate the development of other projects. Such as the construction of a terminal for the transshipment of potash fertilizers, which will also need railway infrastructure. The project was discussed by Governor Andrey Chibis and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in September this year. Within the framework of the agreements reached, at the moment, work is underway on the layout of the territory.
