The Governor of the Murmansk region and the management of the Chinese company discussed the prospects of container transportation through the port of Murmansk

The Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, held a working meeting with representatives of the Chinese shipping company NewNew Shipping Line (NNSL). The event took place at the Regional Management Center in Murmansk as part of the two-day working visit of the company's delegation to the region.

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of further steps to implement the memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of the Murmansk Region and NNSL in September 2025. The parties are focusing on the prospects of organizing regular container shipments through the port of Murmansk in the summer navigation of 2026, as well as joint projects in the field of port infrastructure development to increase cargo traffic.

Andrey Chibis stressed the strategic importance of the Arctic area: "The development of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic is a long-term and strategic priority for our country. We discussed this topic in detail again at a recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In light of this, we are extremely interested in working together and partnering. Taking into account the detour of the territories, I propose to consider this issue in detail in order to develop concrete steps."

For their part, representatives of the Chinese company noted that during the visit they got acquainted with the infrastructure of the fishing and commercial ports of Murmansk and assessed them as meeting their requirements and long-term plans. New New Shipping Line Chairman Yuxin Fan stated that the company sees significant potential for cooperation.

She also said that NNSL is considering opportunities for broader logistics from Asian countries, including not only destinations to Murmansk, but also promising routes to Europe and the Middle East. At the same time, the decision to open them will directly depend on the availability of sufficient and stable cargo traffic.

"Our company is ready to consider this possibility, provided that the download is provided," said Yuxin Fan.

According to her, a working meeting with Chinese colleagues has already been held to determine the next steps, and it was decided that, first of all, it is necessary to study local enterprises in detail and analyze potential cargo volumes. Based on the results of this analysis, a decision will be made on further actions.
