The Maritime Board is chaired by the Assistant to the President Nikolai Patrushev supported a comprehensive project for the development of the Arctic and the Transarctic transport corridor. The meeting was held in Moscow today.
The initiative of the Commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation on the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic, headed by the Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis, was previously discussed at various venues.
"We noted the need for such an approach back in 2024, and discussed the whole of 2025 at various venues, including the State Council Commission on the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic and the International Arctic Forum. After my report at a recent meeting, Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin supported my position. Today, the work on the project is already on a qualitatively new level. We see an important consolidation of all authorities and development institutions," said Andrey Chibis.
Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, noted that it was the integrated project that would become a tool for implementing the Strategy for the Development of the Russian Arctic Zone.
The Governor stressed that this approach would ensure national security in the Arctic, the influx of investments, the development of territories and the improvement of the quality of life in Arctic cities, emphasizing the special importance of this for the Murmansk region, where many investment projects originate. Andrey Chibis said that all this will undoubtedly affect the development of the regional economy and the well-being of the northerners.
Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, spoke about the need to improve coordination in each area, including the security system and personnel training, as part of the work on the development of the Transarctic Transport Corridor.
"But my main message is, of course, it is important to build a coordination system for all these areas so that urban development is linked to the implementation of economic projects. We are striving for a sustainable model of the Transarctic Transport Corridor, so it seems to me that it is very important to focus on this coordination now, and the government should identify all the mechanisms for this coordination. It is already being implemented significantly, but there is never a limit to perfection in this matter," said Maxim Oreshkin.
It is assumed that the goal of the project will be the integrated development of the socio-economic, territorial and logistical potential of the Arctic and the Transarctic transport corridor to increase the pace of economic development of the Arctic zone, improve the level and quality of life of the population, ensure connectivity of the territories of Russia and increase international transportation.
Governor Andrey Chibis thanked the Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev, Yuri Trutnev, Maxim Oreshkin and all participants in the development of the Arctic territories.
The head of the region described this decision as a new step in the development of the megaproject of the 21st century, noting that there is still a lot of work ahead, and expressed confidence that every effort will be made to make the Russian Arctic even stronger.
