The Murmansk Region is the absolute leader in the Russian Arctic in attracting investments under preferential terms

The head of the region, Andrey Chibis, took part in the final meeting of the board of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic in a videoconference format. Opening the meeting, Alexey Chekunkov, Head of the Ministry of the Far East Development, noted that despite difficult economic conditions, including a high key rate, systematic work on the development of territories continues, with the main focus on creating conditions for people's lives and implementing strategically important projects. The Minister drew attention to the successful implementation of the renovation program in the Arctic regions.

"Together with the Murmansk Region, we started the program back in 2020. I thank Andrey Vladimirovich Chibis for this. His very active and uncompromising position made it possible to launch it correctly, and President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has already issued an order to extend this program until 2030 while maintaining financial support," said Alexey Chekunkov.

In continuation of the meeting, Governor Andrey Chibis spoke about key achievements and major projects, noting that the Murmansk region demonstrates significant success in the economy, logistics and social spheres. For example, in July 2023 in Murmansk, the President supported the preferential Arctic Mortgage program, which allowed the resumption of large-scale housing construction in the region for the first time since Soviet times. The head of the region also noted that the main outcome of the International Arctic Forum, on the sidelines of which a joint meeting of the five commissions of the State Council of the Russian Federation "Sevmorput and the Arctic" was the presentation of new industrial projects, including the production of rare earth metals.

"In just 6 years, 1.5 trillion rubles have actually been invested in the development of the Murmansk Region. This is, of course, a huge indicator. Almost 6 thousand places have been created by our residents of the Arctic zone and residents of the TOP "Capital of the Arctic". Colleagues, you and I are constantly interacting with each other. This allows, within the framework of the special commission of the State Council created by the President, to develop new ideas and new proposals that stimulate a change in the quality of life in the Arctic. It is fundamentally important that what we discussed together and worked out in detail within the framework of the activities of the State Council Commission was eventually included in the instructions given by the president, which we must implement together," Andrei Chibis emphasized.

In addition, the Governor emphasized the importance of implementing an ambitious project to create a modern, world-class campus at Murmansk Arctic University. Students will be able to get a sought-after profession, and then a high-paying job.
