Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, took part in an off-site meeting of the Council under Igor Mikhailovich Ruden, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District, which was held in Kaliningrad.
During the meeting, the current situation related to the implementation of all types of passenger and cargo transportation between the Kaliningrad Region and the regions of the Russian Federation was analyzed.
Opening the meeting, Igor Rudenya stressed that the Kaliningrad Region is of key importance for ensuring the sovereignty of the Russian Federation in the Baltic Sea. He noted that the organization of cargo transportation, providing the population with food and industrial goods, communication services, passenger transportation, as well as the possibility of free communication with other regions of the country are the most important tasks in the current conditions.
"Today we all understand the urgency of the task set by the President — to ensure full—fledged transport accessibility and transport communications between the Kaliningrad Region and the subjects of the Russian Federation," Igor Rudenya stressed, adding that the decisions taken at the meeting will be taken into account in the work of the Security Council of the Russian Federation on the development and security of the Kaliningrad region.
During the meeting, the head of the region presented a comprehensive project for the development of the Arctic and the Transarctic transport corridor, aimed at strengthening transport connectivity, economic potential and national security of the country.
"What kind of work is being done today for the development of the TTC is a matter of principle, since it is this development that will certainly ensure efficiency, including the supply of the Kaliningrad region, the entire Northwest and North of Russia. Today, taking into account the development of the Arctic, the resource base and geopolitical security, the importance of this area is only increasing for our country. The Arctic today is a point of attraction around which the attention of all world powers is focused," said Andrey Chibis.
The meeting participants paid special attention to the coordination of actions of regions and federal structures in the implementation of infrastructure projects. It was noted that the port of Kaliningrad could become an important part of the Transarctic Transport Corridor.
The governor also stressed the importance of interregional cooperation, including in the field of tourism. The development of transport infrastructure contributes to an increase in passenger traffic and the expansion of domestic routes. In particular, the air service between Murmansk and Kaliningrad remains one of the most popular year-round destinations.
Following the meeting, the participants confirmed the need for further joint work on the development of the transport system of the North-West of Russia and the implementation of strategic objectives set by the President of the Russian Federation.
