Today, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an agreement on cooperation between Arctic Lithium JSC and the government of the Murmansk Region was signed in order to unite and coordinate mutual efforts to ensure sustainable socio-economic development of the Murmansk Region, in particular the Lovozersky district.
The document was signed by Governor Andrey Chibis and Director General of JSC "Arctic Lithium" Dmitry Vysotsky.
"More than 50% of all lithium reserves in the country are located in the depths of the Murmansk region. Auctions for lithium mining were held last year with the support of the federal Government. For the region, these are new investments, jobs and taxes to the regional budget. The draft agreement involves the construction of a mining and processing plant for the extraction and processing of lithium-containing ore. And the company also undertakes obligations for socio-economic partnership in order to further invest its funds in the development of Lovozersky district," the head of the region noted.
Dmitry Vysotsky stressed that Russia needs its own raw materials for the production of lithium and lithium products.
"For 30 years it has been imported from abroad. And now we have returned to the fact that it is necessary to ensure the country's raw material security. There are many mining activities concentrated in the Murmansk Region, but they are located along highways and railways. Lovozersky district is more difficult to develop infrastructurally. Therefore, our project will allow one of the most extensive districts in the Murmansk region to develop, especially in the social sphere. In industrial terms, the municipality has great potential, it can stand in line with the major cities of the region, where there are city–forming enterprises," said Dmitry Vysotsky, General Director of Arctic Lithium JSC.
