Gasification of the Murmansk region: the course for 2030

At a meeting at Gazprom, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Board, and Sergey Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of Russia, discussed the prospects for the development of gasification in the country's regions. Special attention is paid to the new five–year programs for 2026-2030. The Murmansk Region will be among them for the first time.

Updating of the General Scheme of gas supply and gasification is being completed in the region. It is planned to sign a new Development Program with Gazprom this year.

The decision to gasify the Murmansk Region from the unified resource base of Russia was made on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. The main gas pipeline from Volkhov to Murmansk with a length of more than 1300 km will be built in the region. This will make it possible to switch over 80 heat supply sources to natural gas.

"We are dealing with this issue in detail. On the one hand, gasification is a serious impetus for the emergence of new production facilities in the Murmansk region, namely the processing of the raw materials that we extract and send for processing today, and on the other hand, it is a departure from fuel oil dependence. In addition to the fact that fuel oil is not environmentally friendly, it is also extremely expensive for the budget. We have to spend about 10 billion rubles a year from the regional budget to ensure heat supply, so that these costs do not pour into the receipts of the northerners. And this is despite the fact that, thanks to the President's decision, we additionally receive compensation from the federal budget. Gasification is fundamentally important," said Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, commenting on the President's instructions.

Gazprom continues to implement a large-scale gasification program throughout the country. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 81 thousand households have been connected to gas, and in general, more than 850 thousand families have already used free gas supply.
