Governor Andrey Chibis took part in the All-Russian Municipal Forum

Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, took part in the II All-Russian Municipal Forum "SMALL MOTHERLAND — THE POWER OF RUSSIA", organized by VARMSU with the support of the Presidential Administration. The forum was held the day before in Moscow.

During a panel discussion on the priority geostrategic territories of the Arctic and the Far East, he spoke about large-scale projects that are being implemented in the region thanks to the preferential regimes of the Arctic zone and the Capital of the Arctic TOP.

"Since 2019, about 1.5 trillion rubles have been invested in the region's economy. Preferential regimes are successfully operating in the region.: TOP "Capital of the Arctic" and AZRF. Among the flagships: NOVATEK-Murmansk with a plant for the serial production of natural gas liquefaction lines on gravity-type bases, the first line of which was launched by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Lavna Seaport, the first port in Murmansk, built in 50 years. Its capacity will amount to 18 million tons of annual coal transshipment," the head of the region said.

Andrey Chibis stressed that the Murmansk Region occupies an important place in the Arctic economy. The richest deposits, including lithium, are concentrated here, infrastructure projects are being implemented, industry is being modernized, and new logistics is being created.

At the International Arctic Forum, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the special importance of the region, calling Murmansk the capital of the Russian Arctic. The city is rightfully considered an outpost of the country: its geographical location allows it to control the most important sea routes and is the starting point for many shipping routes of the NSR.

"But it is impossible to develop the Arctic without people. It is man who is the main driving force of the Arctic. All projects become a reality thanks to those who live and work in the Kola Arctic. If we don't create a high-quality living environment, then these people won't exist. The North cannot be lifted by the watch. That's why we're investing in cities. With the support of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we are improving our cities, modernizing the education system, and attracting young people to live in the North in an interesting and comfortable way," Andrei Chibis emphasized.

According to him, over the past six years, more than 1,000 yards have been renovated in the region, over 400 playgrounds and sports grounds have been built, and landscaping projects have been implemented in all settlements. Murmansk entered the top 5 most favorable cities with a difficult climate, and the urban environment index increased by 35 points.

In conclusion, the governor spoke about the optimization of municipal management: 23 municipalities were transformed into 4 municipal districts. Thus, the number of representative bodies and heads of municipalities will decrease from 36 to 17. This will reduce the cost of their maintenance.
