The Murmansk bulk terminal has completed the loading of 26,400 tons of potash fertilizers onto a vessel belonging to NewNew Shipping Line, which previously delivered 502 containers with imported cargo from China to the capital of the Russian Arctic. After the return export loading of potash fertilizers from a domestic producer, the vessel is heading to ports in Southeast Asia.
“The completion of the return loading is proof that the Murmansk Arctic route is capable of operating as a full‑fledged two‑way corridor.” “We came in with imports and left with exports, without empty runs and without downtime. Sevmorput reduces delivery time and lowers dependence on transit zones, and this is critically important in the current conditions,” noted Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor and Minister for the Development of the Arctic and the Economy of the Murmansk Region.
Since 2024, MBT has been consistently restructuring its cargo model to specialize in mineral fertilizers and apatite concentrate: after modernizing its facilities, regular transshipment of potash fertilizers was launched at the beginning of 2026. This made it possible to quickly master the loading process during the test voyage and confirm the terminal’s readiness to increase volumes.
At the same time, shipments of an imported batch of containers continue to be sent from the MMTP by rail deeper into the country: 227 containers have already left the port, and the remaining part will be delivered to Central Russia by the end of September.
Final conclusions about the commercial efficiency of the route for all participants will be made after the voyage is fully completed, but the successful return load has confirmed the fundamental possibility of creating a balanced transportation model — with imports to Murmansk and export loads on the return voyage.
