Murmansk Region Development Corporation in the new "Investment Digest" tells about the events that positively influenced the investment attractiveness of the region in September 2023.
So, in early autumn, the main news related to the implementation of key investment projects in the Arctic, according to the regional Development Corporation, was a statement of intent to launch a new large-scale project "Murmansk LNG". According to Leonid Mikhelson, the head of NOVATEK, the Murmansk Region is an ideal place for the implementation of new projects for the production and transportation of liquefied natural gas, provided that year–round navigation along the Northern Sea Route is provided.
In addition, the head of state instructed to double the loading of the port of Murmansk by 2027, to 110 million tons. In this regard, Governor Andrey Chibis said that it is planned to achieve an increase in cargo turnover thanks to the implementation of the Arctic Transshipment and container terminal Rusatom Cargo, as well as the Lavna port, to which the laying of a railway track with a length of more than 45 kilometers has already begun. The work is carried out as part of the comprehensive development of the Murmansk transport hub.
In September, the government of the Murmansk Region signed a new social agreement with Norilsk Nickel for 10 billion rubles until 2025. Most of the planned funds will go to healthcare, education and culture. Commenting on the company's plans to contribute to the social development of the region, Vladimir Potanin, President of Norilsk Nickel, called the investment climate in the Murmansk Region one of the best in our country.
Another news that attracted attention to the Murmansk region at the federal level was the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and a native of the Kola Arctic Denis Manturov. He visited enterprises and supported Andrey Chibis' proposals for the development of education, ship repair and production of building materials in the region.
In early autumn, the Murmansk Region became one of the leaders of a number of federal ratings, in particular, the region entered the TOP 15 environmentally friendly subjects of the Russian Federation according to the "National Environmental Rating", which is annually conducted by the all-Russian public organization "Green Patrol".
In addition, the region continues to strengthen international cooperation. In September, it became known that in the first six months of 2023, the volume of trade turnover with Kazakhstan increased sixfold. First of all, the growth was due to the import of equipment and the export of fish, food, and pharmaceutical products.
