The Murmansk Region Development Corporation presented a digest of events that positively influenced the investment attractiveness of the region in January-February 2024. New issues of the collection are regularly published on the Investment Portal and include news related to the implementation of investment projects, as well as expert opinions and analytical data.
In the first month of the year, at a visiting meeting of the regional government chaired by Governor Andrei Chibis in the city of Polar Dawns, the results of the Kola NPP in 2023 and plans for further development were announced, including the construction of an innovative two-block power plant on the shore of Lake Imandra in the Kunchast-Guba area, with a capacity of 600 MW each.
In addition, in January, the results of the cargo turnover of seaports for 2023 were summed up. Murmansk port has entered the top 5 ports of Russia in terms of cargo transported. According to the results of 2023, the cargo turnover of the Murmansk port increased by 2.8% and reached 58 million tons.
In February, Andrey Chibis took part in a meeting on the integrated development of the Murmansk transport hub under the leadership of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Andrey Belousov, who instructed to complete the construction of the Murmansk transport hub in December 2024.
Also in February, as part of the work of the international exhibition and forum "Russia" at VDNH, the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, and the General director of Aeroplane Strana, Alexander Prygunkov, signed a cooperation agreement that provides for the implementation of complex housing construction projects.
"Appreciating the economic and development potential of the Murmansk agglomeration, we plan to actively use all our rich experience working on large and complex projects to improve the quality of people's lives, create a comfortable environment, as well as create new opportunities and jobs," said Alexander Prygunkov, Managing Partner and CEO of Aeroplane Strana.
At the end of February, it became known about the launch of new investment projects to upgrade heat supply systems and reduce the region's dependence on fuel oil. As part of the relevant concessions, it is planned to replace the old coal-fired boilers in Monchegorsk and Murmansk in the Drovyanoye district with new ones that will use wood chips as fuel.
In February, another important event took place - the Murmansk region won in four nominations of the All-Russian Travel Award Russian Travel Awards. The region took the first place in the nominations "Territory of Arctic tourism" and "Territory of autotourism", the second place in the categories "Territory of gastronomic tourism" and "Best tourism marketing of the region". The Kola Arctic Region also received a special award for striving for quality and business excellence.
