A resident of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation will grow planting material for rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon

By the end of 2026, the Russian Salmon company expects to produce the first rainbow trout fry in the amount of 4 million per year.
In addition, the new fish factory plans to participate in the program of reproduction of biological resources — to release salmon fry into the rivers of the Murmansk region.

The Kola NPP, the administration of the satellite city of the Polar Dawns station and the Russian Salmon LLC company signed an agreement on the construction of a plant for growing planting material for rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon. This is reported by Arctic TV.
The enterprise will be located on the territory of the sanitary protection zone of the Kola NPP and plans to use the warm water of the discharge channel in the technological production process. Capital construction with an area of 2.5 — 3 thousand square meters. The project provides for the presence of its own treatment facilities in order to minimize the negative impact on the ecosystem of Lake Imandra. The volume of investments in the new project is estimated at 1-2 billion rubles, in the future — the creation of additional jobs.

"Fish farming has always been of great importance for the Kola Peninsula. And we are glad to become partners in a new promising project in this industry. I am especially pleased that we will grow Russian salmon, because the caviar and planting material are produced in Russia," commented Vasily Omelchuk, Director of the Kola NPP.


According to the Kola NPP Communications Department, the Russian Salmon company, a resident of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, was founded in 2005, and at the end of 2022 launched a fish factory in the Murmansk region in the settlement of Liinakhamari. The new enterprise near the Kola NPP will be a new step in the development of the fishing industry in the region.
