SPIEF 2026: Murmansk Region and MegaFon to continue cooperation

The Government of the Murmansk Region and MegaFon have signed an agreement on cooperation. The signing took place on June 3 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).
"MegaFon is a reliable partner of the Murmansk Region. We intend to continue our cooperation, and the key issue for us remains providing communications to remote settlements. Modern technologies should work for the benefit of Northerners, their comfort and quality of life, as well as the stable operation of all government agencies," said Governor Andrei Chibis.

As the head of the region noted, first of all, the continuation of cooperation with the company is especially important given the growth of domestic tourism, increased transport activity and the development of the Murmansk region as a major logistics center.

"The specifics of the Murmansk region are difficult climatic conditions, difficult terrain with hills and remote settlements, therefore, the development of communications in the Arctic requires non—standard engineering solutions from the operator. Constantly expanding the coverage area and providing high-quality communications in the region, we use various technologies, including satellite communications. At SPIEF, we will discuss the expansion of Internet coverage in remote villages, as well as investments in the digital development of the region," said Khachatur Pombukhchan, CEO of MegaFon.

Megafon is the operator providing the largest coverage of the federal highway R-21 "Cola". In addition, in 2025, MegaFon carried out infrastructure modernization and frequency refarming in the region. As a result, speeds of up to 50 Mbit/s became available on the highway to Khibiny airport. New telecom equipment was also installed in small settlements of the Kovdorsky district, where, according to the operator, traffic consumption increased by 20% over the past year. This year, it is planned to improve the quality of communications in the Kola and Kandalaksha districts.
