Plans for partnership with Indian business discussed at SPIEF 2026

A working meeting was held between Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Mr. Sammy Manoj Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance non-profit partnership, as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The head of the region presented the investment and industrial potential of the Murmansk Region to the Indian partners, emphasizing its key role in strengthening the Russian presence in the Arctic. Special attention was paid to the development of a comprehensive project for the development of the Arctic and the formation of the Transarctic Transport Corridor, a strategically important route that opens up new logistical opportunities.

"The key development projects for our region are rare earth metals, as well as port infrastructure and logistics. We are actively engaged in rolling out the Northern Sea Route, part of the Transarctic Transport Corridor, which acts as a convenient alternative to traditional routes. This is a strategically significant project for the development of the entire Arctic, and Murmansk is the main port of the Northern Sea Route and the TTC. We are working together with the Russian Government and the Presidential Administration to make the project economically profitable. Among other things, this is being handled by the relevant Commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation, which I headed on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The Commission consolidates the interests and resources of representatives of all Arctic regions, government, business, science, and public organizations," Andrei Chibis said during the meeting.

The head of the region noted that a strong economic base has already been formed: last year alone, the trade turnover between the Murmansk Region and India increased by more than 60%. The Governor and representatives of the alliance discussed possible areas of cooperation, including involving Indian companies in Arctic projects. Among the potentially promising projects are projects related to industrial cooperation and regional investments in logistics and port infrastructure, import substitution and localization.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a visit to the Murmansk Region by a delegation of Indian entrepreneurs and business leaders. The trip will allow representatives of Indian companies to assess opportunities for joint projects on the spot, hold talks with regional authorities and potential partners.

Representatives of seafood processing and cold chain logistics companies, ship repair, marine engineering, production and operation of port equipment, fertilizer production and extraction of mineral resources are expected to visit the Murmansk Region.
