As part of a working trip to the Murmansk Region, Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, and Andrey Chibis, Governor, held a bilateral meeting. 

Alexey Chekunkov stressed that the attention of the whole world is focused on the Arctic, and the Murmansk Region is preparing to host the International Arctic Forum.

"Today, together with you, we are putting the finishing touches to make this event a success. The attention of not only Russia, but also the whole world is focused on the Arctic: without exaggeration, this is a matter of human development. And I thank you not only as governor and head of the "Live in the North!" program, but also as head of the State Council commission on the development of the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route for your contribution to developing solutions aimed at achieving the goals set by the President. And the Arctic's development goals are very ambitious, and huge investments are being made. Historically, our country has always been a leader in the Arctic: all great stories began with us, 500 years ago the development of the Northern Sea Route began. And I hope that this will continue. Thank you very much, we will move in this direction together," Alexey Chekunkov said.

The head of the region thanked the Minister for productive cooperation. 

"First of all, I want to thank you and the Ministry's team for supporting the Murmansk Region. Thanks to this, the Arctic two percent mortgage appeared, which is important both for people and for developers who came to the region. The most important renovation program has been launched, which was supported by the President, and we have prepared master plans for the main cities of the Arctic. Our cooperation gives a powerful additional impetus to the development of the Murmansk region. Thank you sincerely for your cooperation. Today, together we opened a unique, Russia's first winter swimming championship. It is a significant, spectacular event and a clear signal to the world community about how strong people live in the North," said Andrey Chibis, the head of the region.
