The Governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, took part in a joint meeting of the presidium of the Government Commission on Transport and the commission of the State Council in the direction of "Transport" via videoconference. The agenda of the meeting included a discussion of the results of the implementation of the transport part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the main infrastructure in 2023. The participants also discussed plans for the implementation of indicators for 2024 and development prospects from 2025.
During the meeting, the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, thanked the Government of the Russian Federation for the support provided in the framework of the development of transport infrastructure in the region, and also made a proposal to carry out work on "loosening bottlenecks", which will increase the capacity of the Murmansk transport hub.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the Government of the Russian Federation for the support, thanks to which we managed to build a railway on the western shore of the Kola Bay in a fairly short time. At the time of the launch of the working traffic on the railway bridge, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the need to consider issues to increase the capacity of the Murmansk transport hub. In this regard, I ask you to consider the possibility of taking into account in the passport of our project measures to expand the "bottlenecks" in terms of the development of the Murmansk transport hub. The construction of the railway, which launched the labor movement, allowed us to reach an understanding of freight flows. The corresponding instruction at the end of the meeting would allow our colleagues and me to qualitatively work out the expansion of "bottlenecks," the head of the region said.
First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Andrey Belousov supported the proposal of the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis. On the basis of the proposals developed during the meeting, instructions will be given to relevant ministries and departments.
Recall that in November 2022, Andrei Chibis headed the working group on Arctic development under the Commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation, created on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During this time, a number of proposals have been put forward, which have received the support of the President and the Government and have been put into operation. Among them are the dispatch of the first technological gas liquefaction line on gravity–type bases for Arctic LNG-2 to the place of operation on the Gydan Peninsula along the Northern Sea Route, the launch of working traffic on the railway bridge on the western shore of the Kola Bay, as well as the decision on gasification of the Murmansk region. In addition, comprehensive work has begun on the renovation of the Arctic zone of Russia, the Arctic Mortgage has been launched, and the main settlements of the Murmansk Region have been approved.
