Further modernization of the airport complex was discussed in Murmansk

Governor Andrey Chibis held a working meeting with Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of Novaport Holding. The parties discussed further modernization of the airport complex in Murmansk.

The governor thanked the company's representatives for their active and systematic collaboration – a new modern terminal was launched at the end of last year.

"The most important issue is the continued development of the airport. This includes the reconstruction of the old terminal. Currently, the reconstruction of the apron is also being worked out in the federal project with appropriate financing, the next step is the reconstruction of the runway, which is in the national project. Thank you to our President, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, for supporting the need for work. Therefore, let's discuss this in detail," Andrey Chibis emphasized.

The Governor noted that the regional government continues to maintain a high volume of air transportation subsidies.

"We see that the operational work in the new terminal is being adjusted, I ask the management of the holding and the airport itself to keep it under strict control. The airport is the face of the region: cleanliness and comfort of processes are important both for those who come to us and for our residents who fly on business trips or vacations. I ask that everything function as clearly as possible. For our part, we will continue to fulfill our obligations, including subsidizing air transportation," the governor said.

Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of the holding, stressed that the construction of the new terminal became possible with the large-scale support of the regional team. Evgeny Yankilevich noted that the growing passenger traffic at Murmansk Airport certainly requires continued capacity expansion.

"At the moment, Murmansk Airport already serves up to 1.5 million passengers annually. We see an increase in the tourist attractiveness of the Murmansk Region, and the great work being done by the region's team to implement large-scale infrastructure projects that are strategically important for the Arctic. Therefore, there should be a second queue. Of course, there are difficulties. Murmansk is located in rather difficult climatic and geological conditions, so the second stage of the terminal needs to be synchronized with the reconstruction of the platform, including for the placement of additional teletraps. To make this happen, we have undertaken the task of providing support in financing the adjustment of design solutions For the first part of the adjustment, we expect to withdraw from Glavgosexpertiza in June this year, for the second – at the end of the summer. The adjustment will allow us to fully synchronize the construction of the second stage of the terminal and the reconstruction of the platform," said Evgeny Yankilevich.

According to the head of the holding, it is assumed that Rostransmodernization will select the general contractor for the work this year, and construction of the second stage of the terminal will begin in early 2027.

"We expect that the active phase of construction work on the platform and terminal should begin together in early 2027. Given that the main network connections have already been made at the first stage, we expect that the second stage will be implemented faster. And the terminal will be fully operational in 2029," Evgeny Yankilevich emphasized.
