Governor Andrey Chibis assessed the progress of the construction of a new terminal complex at Murmansk airport

Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, visited the construction site of a new domestic air terminal complex at the Nicholas II Murmansk International Airport. During the visit of the head of the region, Evgeny Yankilevich, General Director of Novaport Holding LLC, spoke about the current stages of the project, including completed works and key tasks for the near future.

Thus, the main structural elements of the terminal have been erected: in 2024, work was completed on the foundation and roof, installation of metal structures, and technological equipment was purchased. The terminal is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

The total area of the facility will be more than seven thousand square meters, and the capacity will double to 400 passengers per hour. It is planned that the terminal will be equipped with two telescopic ladders for comfortable boarding and disembarking of passengers. In parallel, work is underway on the reconstruction of the airport complex, including the expansion of the apron, the construction of new transport and engineering infrastructure facilities.

The head of the region stressed that the modernization of the airport plays an important role in strengthening transport accessibility and opens up new opportunities for the development of tourism and the economy of the Murmansk region.

"The terminal is beautiful and new. It is very important that we take a comprehensive approach to the construction of our main air hub. The road to the airport has already been illuminated, the terminal is under construction, and work will continue on updating the taxiway, apron and runway. We are doing this in cooperation with the investor, Novaport, with the support of the President and the federal government. We helped our colleagues get preferential credit financing through VEB.RF. We have been working with the Russian government for a long time to make this project happen. Therefore, taking into account our passenger traffic and climate, it is absolutely obvious that the time has come for Northerners and guests of the region to fly out and arrive at such a modern airport complex. The pace of work is encouraging. I really hope that this year, taking into account all the discussions, the facility will be operational," the governor said.

During the inspection of the terminal under construction, Andrey Chibis walked along the passenger route. He was shown where the reception area and the waiting room would be located. The Governor drew attention to the importance of the architectural design of the building's facade from the aircraft parking area. The main task is to emphasize the modern look of the airport complex, while maintaining its connection with the natural motifs of the Kola Arctic.

Novaport commissioned four new airport complexes in 2024. They all have different architectures, but they have one thing in common – comfort, safety and compliance with modern requirements. The terminal at Murmansk Airport, which we plan to introduce in 2025, will also meet all the requirements, but it will have its own specific architecture reflecting the Russian north. We see interest in the region not only economically, but also as a tourist destination. I think the tourist flow will grow not only because of certain reasons, but because people have learned that there are amazing and beautiful things to see here," commented Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of Novaport Holding LLC.

Andrey Chibis discussed the airport's further development strategy at a working meeting with the heads of the Russian Ministry of Transport, relevant regional ministries, Rostransmodernization, Novaport Holding LLC, Murmansk Airport JSC and contractors. Among the key topics are the further renovation of the apron, the reconstruction of the runway, the expansion of capacity, and the creation of additional services for passengers.
