A working meeting between Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Roman Starovoit, Minister of Transport of Russia, took place in Moscow.
The Minister stressed that the Kola Peninsula, on which the Murmansk Region is located, is of great strategic importance, and noted the positive dynamics of the region's transport complex.
"Within the framework of two regional air transportation support programs, 98.4 thousand passengers were transported on 7 routes in 2023. In 4 months of 2024, 571,218 passengers were transported through the airports of the Murmansk region, which is 12.1% more than last year, he said. – In addition, in 2023, 53 units of transport were transferred to the Murmansk Region due to existing support measures for the renewal of public transport."
The parties discussed work in a number of important areas for the region.
"Among the most important is the expansion of near and far railway approaches to the facilities of the Murmansk transport hub in order, on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to ensure the transportation of goods up to 110 million tons through the port of Murmansk. As well as the reconstruction of the runways of Murmansk and Apatity airports, which were also included in the list of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's instructions," the governor noted.
The parties also discussed increasing funding for the national project "Safe high-quality Roads" for the Murmansk region, so that the region could upgrade roads even more actively; carrying out major repairs of the section of the R-21 Cola road at the entrance to Severomorsk and increasing subsidies for air travel destinations to expand the route network
"We will work together with our colleagues and look for solutions for their implementation," the governor said following the meeting.
