May 9 — Victory Day

The Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis congratulated the residents of the Murmansk region on the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The head of the region stressed that during the years of the Great Patriotic War 185 thousand bombs were dropped on the city of Murmansk. And after the next most powerful Nazi raid, the city was actually burned to the ground.

"In an instant, thousands of Murmansk residents lost their homes, shelter, but the city did not give up. All this time, fishermen were working — they were getting catch and fish for the front and for the besieged Leningrad, port workers, boatmasters were working, unloading cargo important for the front. People were patching up the railway and doing everything to bring our Victory closer, and at this moment, on the shore of the Western Litsa, our fighters in incredible conditions for three long years held the defense under constant enemy fire and attempts to break through it. The North did not give up, the North stood. We are deeply indebted to those who ensured our Victory in those years," Andrei Chibis said.

The Governor noted that we are proud of the generation of winners, just as we are proud of our guys who are defending our country from Nazism again today.

"They protect their children, families and our whole great country. Heroically, bravely fulfilling their task — and that is why victory will be ours. Dear friends, I congratulate everyone on this sacred holiday for all Russians! Happy Great Victory Day!" — the head of the region addressed the residents of the Kola Arctic.
