Meeting of the Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov and the Governor Murmansk region Andrey Chibis was part of the recent visit of the head of the region to Moscow. Andrey Chibis presented to the Presidential Adviser the initiatives for discussion within the framework of the International Arctic Forum "The Arctic — the Territory of Dialogue" planned this year, as well as the Russian chairmanship in the Arctic Council.
The format of the forum depends on the epidemiological situation.
"Within the framework of the upcoming Russian Federation's chairmanship in the Arctic Council in 2021-2023, the relations of the Murmansk Region with the Arctic border territories are becoming particularly relevant. The Arctic is a strategically important region for both Russia and the AU member states and observers, as well as for the global economy as a whole. Sustainable development is unthinkable without establishing international cooperation, " said Anton Kobyakov.
Important steps have been taken to improve the system of public administration for the development of the Arctic region, and almost the entire Russian Arctic is becoming a special economic zone with a unique set of tax benefits and preferences. The head of the Murmansk Region said that in 2020, despite all the difficulties, the work on promoting the region as the flagship of the Arctic agenda did not stop for a day.
"The results, the dynamics of movement in the Arctic zone, which is the result of consolidated efforts. And here we are performing, which is very correct and healthy, not as some kind of competitors with each other, but on the contrary, consolidating, moving forward together. However, it is important to continue working to develop the region's investment attractiveness abroad. As a tool for promotion, it is necessary to restore one of the backbone industries in the country, namely the congress and exhibition industry, which demonstrates our potential to a wide range of both Russian and foreign partners. I am sure that vaccination is the only working way to defeat the pandemic and return to business activity, " said Andrey Chibis.
