A working meeting was held in Moscow between Andrey Nikitin, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, and Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region. The main topics of discussion were key infrastructure projects in the region, including the modernization of the road network, the development of the Murmansk transport hub and an increase in the capacity of the seaport.
"The comprehensive development of the Murmansk transport hub is one of our key priorities. The commissioning of the Lavna coal terminal with a transshipment capacity of up to 18 million tons, and in the future – up to 24 million tons, will significantly strengthen the logistics capabilities of the region. In addition, the expansion of railway approaches and the construction of new terminals will increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure towards the port of Murmansk to 45 million tons," said Governor Andrey Chibis.
In 2025, 1.2 billion rubles from the federal budget were allocated to bring regional roads to a standard state. Plans for the development of railway infrastructure on the Murmansk–Volkhovstroy section and the construction of a new Output–Lavna line were also discussed.
Special attention is paid to the aviation sector. In 2024, passenger traffic through the airports of the Murmansk region exceeded 1.6 million people, which is 1% more than in the previous year. As part of the modernization of Murmansk Airport, it is planned to reconstruct an artificial runway, apron, taxiway and the construction of an emergency rescue station.
Another important project will be the reconstruction of Khibiny airport within the framework of the national project "Efficient Transport System".
