The Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis held a meeting of the Territorial Fisheries Council of the Murmansk region

Today, the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis held a meeting of the Territorial Fisheries Council of the Murmansk region. At the meeting, he stressed that over the past two years, the number of employees of the fishing industry has increased by 850 people.

"The fishery and fishery complex of the Murmansk region is one of the key sectors of our economy. About 150 organizations are engaged in fishing and processing, about 7.5 thousand people work in the industry. An additional 850 jobs were created in 2021 and 2022. It is also important that the fisheries sector is among the top 5 highly paid industries in the region in terms of salaries," the governor said and noted that despite the sanctions pressure and existing restrictions, the industry is developing dynamically.

So, according to the results of last year, the extraction of aquatic biological resources amounted to 576 thousand tons, fish production – about 478 thousand tons.

"The Federal Government and the regional government have taken all necessary measures to preserve the existing production and production volumes, as well as jobs. Thus, residents of the TOP "Capital of the Arctic" are allocated land plots for the construction and creation of new terminals, small companies are provided with financial support for development – loans and microloans. All companies that work in this industry are important to us," the governor stressed.

In addition, the head of the region thanked everyone who takes part in the regional project "Our Fish".

"Since 2019, mobile and stationary fairs have been selling goods with a value below the market. This is very important for the Northerners," Andrei Chibis said.

Deputy Governor Olga Kuznetsova reported in more detail on the current state and development plan of the Murmansk Region's fisheries complex.

"In 2022, the regional government was focused on creating new conditions for investment projects and the infrastructure needed for these projects. The creation of new terminals that will allow us to increase the volume of cargo transshipment in the fishing industry was one of our main tasks. Thus, work was carried out to provide electricity to current and future residents of the TOP. The construction of an automated refrigeration complex has begun in the Udarnik terminal, design and survey work is underway on the construction of the terminal. The ongoing work will create an additional 567 jobs," Olga Kuznetsova stressed.

The participants of the meeting also discussed other relevant issues for the industry, including personnel training for enterprises of the Murmansk region fisheries complex and issues of equipping and repairing the premises of educational institutions where industry specialists are trained.

Thus, one of the current measures of regional support this year is a competition for universities in the region implementing secondary vocational education programs in the group of specialties "Shipbuilding and Water transport Engineering and Technologies". The grant amount is 20 million rubles. The money can be spent on the repair of classrooms, the purchase of educational furniture, computers and software.
