During the operational meeting, the development of tourist infrastructure for residents and guests of the Murmansk region was discussed. Governor Andrey Chibis stressed that tourism is one of the priorities for economic and service development within the framework of the "Live in the North!" plan.
"This industry is one of the key drivers of the development of small and medium–sized businesses in the region. In 2024, the Murmansk Region set an absolute record, receiving 761 thousand tourists, which is 13.5% more than in 2023. Our task is to stimulate the development of infrastructure, which is in great demand for our guests and residents. I would like to note that if it were not for the growing tourist flow, the new airport that we will be introducing this year would not have been implemented in the current period. The decision on the new terminal, which we are completing, was made possible due to the growth of tourism. The same applies to catering establishments, many have also appeared due to the increased flow of guests," the governor stressed.
Andrey Chibis said that over the past 5 years, 135 tourism projects have been supported for a total of 400 million rubles, and entrepreneurs have invested over 500 million rubles. In 2023-2024, 17 initiatives totaling 76 million rubles were implemented as part of the Presidential National Project "Tourism and Hospitality". The new infrastructure includes campsites in Teriberka and Ura-Guba, a tourist cafe "Fersman Peak" and an ecotrope in Khibiny and other facilities.
"Since April 29, applications for competitive selection for state support of tourism infrastructure development projects have been accepted. Subsidies of up to 10 million rubles are provided for the creation of campsites and the modernization of tourist routes. A total of 64.5 million rubles have been allocated in the budget for the current year. The goal is to increase the number of rooms, modernize the infrastructure and create new jobs. And of course, a new level of service," the governor emphasized.
Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region, spoke in more detail about this in her report.
