The Government of the Murmansk Region and Uralchem signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of the Tuloma subsurface area. A solemn ceremony was held at the company's stand as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 4. The document was signed by Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem.
The agreement is aimed at implementing an investment project for the development of the Tuloma subsurface area, within the framework of which it is planned to build a quarry and a processing plant. The document provides for the creation of new jobs, an increase in tax revenues to the regional budget and the implementation of measures for the Development Strategy of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation until 2035. The preliminary investment volume is about 20 billion rubles.
Uralchem and the government of the Murmansk region expressed their willingness to cooperate: the company to invest in the project, taking into account the assessment of its investment attractiveness, and the region to provide state support measures, including the allocation of land, as well as jointly with Uralchem to implement partnership agreements in the field of socio-economic development of the Murmansk region.
"URALCHEM is one of the undisputed market leaders. The arrival of such a giant is the best marker of the investment attractiveness of the Murmansk region. Our partners clearly see and understand the enormous economic potential that we are building in the North today. Over the past 7 years, the volume of investments in the region's economy has reached 1.8 trillion rubles. We are systematically modernizing the energy sector, have achieved a historic decision on gasification, are building the Murmansk transport hub and are offering unique preferential treatment precisely to make it profitable and comfortable for businesses of such a high level to work with us. But the most important thing in this strategic partnership is the effect for the northerners. These are hundreds of new high-paying jobs in manufacturing itself and in related fields. The products of the plant will give additional load to our transport hub, and taxes will strengthen the regional budget and will be used to develop social infrastructure: repair roads, hospitals and landscaping yards," commented Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region.
The head of the region noted that PhosAgro, EuroChem, and Akron have been processing apatite ores in the Murmansk Region so far. The signing of the agreement with Uralchem means that another leader of the Russian phosphorous fertilizers market is now represented in the Kola Arctic. In addition, Dmitry Tatyanin, Chairman of the company's Board of Directors, has been appointed to the new Supervisory Board of Murmansk Arctic University.
Uralchem has always considered its investment projects as a driver of socio-economic development in the regions where it operates. The Murmansk Region is a new region for the Company, and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute to its development. Cooperation with the Government of the Murmansk Region is another confirmation of this approach. This agreement lays the foundation for achieving concrete and measurable results: new jobs for residents of the region and additional tax revenues to the budget," said Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem.
