A new location for tourists has been opened at the Kola wind Farm: an exhibition and a minicafe with souvenirs. The event is timed to coincide with the Year of Industrial Tourism. It was attended by Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region, and the management of the Kola wind farm. Also, as part of the opening of the exhibition, a ceremony was held to lay a time capsule with a message from power engineers to future generations.
"We are pleased to welcome the first visitors to the new tourist location, which tells how a team of power engineers, inspired by the idea, once found themselves in the North and stayed here to implement one of the most ambitious projects in the field of wind energy – the construction of the Kola wind farm. The wind farm was so loved not only by residents of the Murmansk region, but also by tourists from different parts of the world, that we thought we needed to create a place where people, fascinated by this beauty, could gain new knowledge about green energy and why and how the most powerful wind farm in the world, which is part of the Arctic Circle, was created. The projects are Achievements of the Russian Federation," Alexander Panov, General Director of the Kola Wind Farm, addressed the first guests of the exhibition.
The Kola Wind Farm has been conducting guided tours since June 2024. At the moment, the station has been visited by more than 1,500 people, including participants in educational, career guidance tours and the EL5-Energy Trail, a unique charity race in the Arctic, which is included in the Russian Book of Records.
Now the excursions to the wind farm will become even more interesting. Guests will be able to get acquainted with the principles of electricity generation using wind, learn about the stages of the evolution of wind turbines and their current application. A separate part of the exhibition presents the flora and fauna of the Murmansk region.
"The wind farm became a place of attraction for northerners and guests of the region even at the stage of construction and logistics of elements of wind turbines and has been one of the iconic places of the Kola Arctic for more than two years. The most powerful wind farm in the Arctic Circle occupies an important place in the energy system not only of the Murmansk region, but also of the entire country. It is unique both in its location and in its technical design. I am glad that such a project has been implemented on our Kola land, in the middle of the endless tundra, and it is very important that it becomes more accessible and interesting for schoolchildren, students, tourists and residents of the Murmansk region," said Svetlana Panfilova.
The Vice Governor noted that industrial tourism is actively developing in the region. One of its goals is to attract the attention of young people to technical and engineering specialties. A number of large–scale projects are being implemented in the Murmansk Region, and as part of the "Live in the North!" plan, much attention is being paid to training personnel to work in the Arctic.
On behalf of the Murmansk Region Government, Svetlana Panfilova thanked the management of the Kola Wind Farm for their contribution to the development of tourist infrastructure and the creation of comfortable conditions for northerners and guests.
Now, on the way to Teriberka, one of the most popular destinations, a modern facility has appeared where you can have lunch, relax, spend time usefully and learn more about the history of the Kola Region.
