The development of partnership relations has become the main topic of the Russian-Chinese Business Forum, which is taking place these days in Shanghai. The head of the Russian delegation, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin made a speech at the plenary session today. Among the participants of the forum is the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis.
One of the important accents of the Prime Minister's speech was transport cooperation.
"According to the results of the first four months of this year, the dynamics of cargo and passenger traffic between Russia and China has improved markedly. It is important to continue synchronous work to increase the capacity of transport arteries and modernize checkpoints. Among the priorities is more active use of the potential of the Northern Sea Route as the shortest route from Asia to Europe," Mikhail Mishustin said. He also stressed that the foundation for future joint successes of the countries is being laid here and now.
Among the main directions, the head of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin also noted the development of joint ventures for the extraction and processing of minerals.
Commenting on the speech of the Prime Minister, Governor Andrey Chibis noted that the Murmansk Region is the base port for the NSR, the start of the most important transport artery.
"For us, everything related to building joint logistics on the Northern Sea Route is a serious priority. Our companies are working with Chinese partners, including the development of port facilities, which is very important for us. Another promising topic is the joint processing of minerals: active lithium mining will soon begin in the Murmansk Region – we have 50% of its Russian reserves concentrated. Our partnership is relevant in the mining and metallurgical industry. For the Murmansk Region, everything related to the eastern direction will bring many advantages, and we are actively working to develop our relations," Andrei Chibis stressed.
Andrey Chibis also noted that the Murmansk region has a rich mineral resource base: about 30% of all known minerals, about 75% of the chemical elements of the periodic table are concentrated in the region; there are more than 60 large explored deposits.
