As part of the presentation of the new strategic plan "To live in the North", Governor Andrey Chibis presented key priorities for maintaining the positive dynamics of the economic development of the Murmansk region.

As the head of the region noted, the government of the Murmansk region has achieved key decisions. According to the new strategic plan "To live in the North", the implementation of strategically important projects for Russia will continue. Already this year, it is planned to launch the Lavna coal transshipment complex. Thanks to its implementation, all necessary prerequisites will be created for the creation of new projects for the development of the port of Murmansk and an increase in cargo turnover along the Northern Sea Route. This is one of the projects for the integrated development of the Murmansk transport hub, within the framework of which it is planned to increase railway capacity to 110 million tons/year.

"It is very important for the real sector of the economy, for the management team and for people what projects we rely on. The topic of logistics is our competitive advantage, in particular the deep–sea ice-free port. We have achieved that we have built a new railway, almost 50 km long, which connected not only the eastern shore, where Murmansk is located, but also the western shore with a single network. And this provides an opportunity to develop the port infrastructure. We see the potential to increase the carrying capacity now," Andrei Chibis stressed.

Also, among the transport and logistics solutions for the next 5 years, projects for the modernization and expansion of the Atomflot infrastructure are included. As the governor noted, the project plans not only a new infrastructure for servicing icebreakers, but also for the assembly of floating nuclear power plants.

"In addition, the plan provides for projects to create a terminal for transshipment of mineral fertilizers, the construction of a multifunctional transshipment complex for goods of the Republic of Belarus, the phased transfer of coal transshipment from the center of Murmansk to the western shore of the Kola Bay, as well as the renovation of the fishing port, the development of the port of Kandalaksha and the port of Vitino and others," the head of the region said.

Special attention will be paid to the development of the field of ship repair and shipbuilding.

"Yesterday was the first meeting of the Maritime Board under the leadership of the Assistant to the President of Russia Nikolai Patrushev, where the place was determined. We really hope that in addition to ship repair, we will have shipbuilding facilities. At the national level, there is a need for new civilian vessels for the transportation of goods along the NSR – this is the project we are fighting for," the governor noted.

Work on gasification of the region will continue. Recall that the decision to gasify the Murmansk region with mainline natural gas was supported by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. Thus, subject to gasification, a number of enterprises announced the possibility of implementing new investment projects to modernize existing enterprises and create new industries and industries.

As part of the new strategic plan "To live in the North", a program is also provided for the development of a mineral resource center and the creation of future industries, including the production of strategically important metals, the development of lithium deposits, the creation of production of active cathode materials based on the Kola MMC, the preservation and development of existing industries, the activation of geological exploration, the production of building materials.

Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, welcomed the participant of the forum "To live in the North".

He noted the positive changes that have been taking place in the region recently. This applies, among other things, to industry, construction, fisheries, healthcare, education and tourism. Denis Manturov thanked the regional government and Governor Andrey Chibis for the ongoing work in terms of building up the industrial potential of the region and proactive work with investors.

"Such an integrated approach gives tangible results. I mean the growth of the regional economy and incomes of the population, the emergence of modern public spaces for leisure and socio-cultural interaction of residents. The progressive development of the Kola Arctic is of great importance for the whole of Russia. The region is one of the strongholds of the Northern Sea Route," Denis Manturov said.

In turn, the Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Russian Federation, Alexey Chekunkov, in his welcoming speech stressed that strategic projects are being implemented in the region, which are the basis for sustainable development of the Arctic and create the basis for the prosperity of the Russian economy for a generation to come.

"The Far East and the Arctic are more than half of our country. Our eastern and Arctic borders are connected by logistics, economy, and the Northern Sea Route. Global tasks for the development of this huge, most promising territory in Russia are being solved by human hands. Residents of the Kola Arctic Region make a huge contribution to this work. It is very important that the Arctic and, in particular, the Murmansk region has become interesting and attractive to people. This is a region of strategic and promising projects, as well as a point of attraction for tourists from all over Russia and beyond," Alexey Chekunkov said.
