A working meeting was held in Moscow between Alexei Dyumin, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Secretary of the State Council, and Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region. The parties discussed the key areas of activity of the Commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation in the direction of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic, headed by Andrey Chibis.
"The strategic importance of the Arctic cannot be overestimated. Approximately 10% of the country's GDP is generated in the Arctic zone of Russia. And the Northern Sea Route is the main transport artery of the Russian Arctic, the importance of which is growing every year. Therefore, the systematic development of the Northern Sea Route is one of the national interests and the key task of the commission. We will work out proposals with the federal government, regions and companies to solve this problem," Andrei Chibis stressed.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed the governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis to the post of chairman of the commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation in the direction of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic. The head of the region stressed that the transformation of the working group into a special commission of the State Council will be an effective tool for achieving national goals at the regional level.
"Of course, in order to achieve these goals, personnel are needed in the Arctic and comprehensive measures are needed to make people's living conditions more comfortable. We will present all our jointly developed initiatives to the President of Russia. I thank Alexey Dyumin for his support. We are preparing to hold the first meeting," Andrei Chibis said.
Vladimir Putin announced the decision to form a commission for the development of the Arctic regions and the Northern Sea Route within the framework of the State Council during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June. The Russian President noted that the development of the Northern Sea Route is of strategic importance, as it contributes to the formation of global transport corridors inside and outside the country.
