Cargo turnover of the seaports of the Murmansk region has increased, despite the sanctions

In the Murmansk region, the volume of cargo traffic "by sea", according to the Association of Commercial Sea Ports, increased by 1.4% in January-June 2022 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 27.9 million tons.

Sea cargo carriers are rebuilding logistics, changing the geography of transit, because under the conditions of sanctions, the costs of transporting goods have increased, and with the departure of foreign operators, container turnover has decreased. The rupture of established ties led to a reversal of the main trade flows from West to East, according to the Murmansk Region branch of the North-Western Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Loading and unloading of bulk carriers decreased, at the same time, the volume of transshipment of bulk cargo increased. This has become an indicative trend for most of the seaports of the Northwest.
