Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Arefyev highly appreciated the economic development and potential of the Murmansk region

Today, Governor Andrey Chibis held a working meeting with Deputy of the State Duma of Russia, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, member of the Communist Party faction Nikolai Arefyev.

Governor Andrey Chibis told the parliamentarian in detail about the major economic projects that are being implemented in the region despite the unprecedented sanctions restrictions that our country is experiencing.

"As you know, we have achieved a solution to the issues of financing the implementation of projects of the Murmansk transport hub – the first new seaport since the Soviet Union. We plan to complete its construction this year. Currently, the project is in an active stage – work is underway to lay a railway on the western shore of the Kola Bay. Our ice-free deep-water Murmansk port and the water area of the Kola Bay are becoming a powerful logistics hub and a base port for the Northern Sea Route. In addition, in a difficult 2022, we managed to launch a lithium project and, of course, the main victory of last year was the support of the Russian President for the gasification project of the Murmansk region. Last week, Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Board, recorded in detail a set of solutions for the design of the gas pipeline, which will be an impetus for another level of industry in our region. We are developing cooperation with the Republic of Belarus. The expert group has already examined promising sites for the creation of a port terminal. We are also starting to work actively with eastern countries – China and India, for example," Andrei Chibis said.

Nikolay Arefyev is in the Murmansk region on a working visit. The purpose of the visit is to get acquainted with the peculiarities of the region from the point of view of economic development.

"The Kola Peninsula is rich in natural resources, which are valued today not only in Russia, but also on the world market. The rare metals that will be mined here are a piggy bank for our economy. Especially lithium, which will be mined in large quantities," the State Duma deputy shared his impressions.

Following the meeting, Nikolai Arefyev gave a high assessment of the economic development and potential of the Murmansk region.
