Today in Moscow, on the sidelines of the Gaidar Forum, Governor Andrey Chibis met with the head of the federal department and shared plans for the renovation of the industrial territory of the former Murmansk Ship Repair Plant of the Navy. According to the head of the region, this will improve the quality of the urban environment, reveal the geopolitical and tourist potential of the Kola North.

"This is a flagship project for urban development. I believe that making a "New Murmansk" is a matter of honor. Murmansk is the undisputed capital of the North, " said Alexey Chekunkov, Head of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation.

"The initiative of the Government of the Murmansk Region was previously highly appreciated by the Far East and Arctic Development Fund. We have signed a corresponding agreement on our readiness to invest in the New Murmansk project. Strelka Design Bureau has already developed the first stage of the concept. And taking into account all the developments, we can say that we are starting to launch a project that is unique not only for the Murmansk Region, but also for the Arctic as a whole," the governor commented.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to form a joint action plan for the phased implementation of the New Murmansk project in the capital of the Arctic Region in the near future.

Recall that the project provides for the renewal of the industrial territory in the regional center. On the site of the ship repair enterprise, it is planned to create a sea embankment, which will cover the current marine station and the area in front of it, and a modern public space with an Arctic museum, apart-hotels, and a gastronomic cluster. Also, in a single design code, the surrounding areas will be updated and landscaped, including one of the city's business cards-the railway station.
