Governor Andrey Chibis held a working meeting with representatives of JSC Bioenergo. The parties discussed projects to modernize the region's heat supply system and eliminate fuel dependence in small towns, as well as the implementation of climate projects and a tire recycling project.
Governor Andrey Chibis noted that as part of the "Live in the North!" plan, the region is actively working to upgrade its communal infrastructure.
"We have been working together on the topic of modernization in the Murmansk region for a long time. Umba has switched from fuel oil to peat, wood chips and pellets, and new biofuel boilers are currently in the process of being built in the area. Drovyanoe city of Murmansk and locality 25 km of railway Monchegorsk-Olenya. Thank you for working together to move away from fuel oil dependence. Today we will also discuss the possibilities of tire recycling, this is a sensitive issue for us, we are definitely interested," the governor said.
As part of the previously concluded concession agreement, 4 bio-boilers were commissioned in Umba, for which peat, wood chips and pellets are used. As a result, the average amount of fuel cost savings, taking into account the volatility of fuel oil, is estimated at 95 million rubles per year. The carbon footprint has also been significantly reduced, and additional jobs have been created. Currently, according to two more concession agreements, biofuel boilers are being built in Drovyanoye, a village 25 km away from Monchegorsk-Olenya railway station.
Georgy Palagin, head of the Murmansk branch of JSC Bioenergo, noted that the new project proposes a phased modernization of the region's heat supply systems with conversion to biofuels in Zelenoborsky, Verkhnetulomsky, Kola District and Roslyakovo in the next 3 years. The investor will be Bioenergo together with PJSC Tatneft. The total investment is 1.74 billion rubles.
