A working meeting on the location of the production of active cathode materials in Monchegorsk was held in Moscow today under the chairmanship of Denis Manturov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. The Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis took part in the workshop.
Recall that during his working visit to the Murmansk region, Denis Manturov supported several key projects for the further development of the Murmansk region. Among them is the further development of the higher education system in the region, as well as the production of raw materials for lithium–ion batteries.
"First of all, it is important for us to produce raw materials for lithium-ion batteries in the Murmansk region: We are extremely interested in a full cycle, given that lithium mining will be carried out on the territory of our region. The implementation of the project is of fundamental importance from the point of view of localization in the territory of the Russian Federation of the entire technological chain for the creation of batteries for various industries," Andrei Chibis stressed.
Currently, the project is supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and is also included in the list of main activities for inclusion in the plans for the integrated socio-economic development of Monchegorsk as a reference settlement of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
"The creation of cathode active material production is key for the development of lithium-ion battery production in the Russian Federation. There is already a guaranteed demand for this material. This also applies to Rosatom's projects. The Kola MMC has the necessary infrastructure and the prospect of mastering the full cycle of production of cathode active material. It is important to start the implementation of the project for the construction of the production complex and its commissioning earlier than planned. It is also necessary to provide opportunities for recycling spent batteries at the project stage," Denis Manturov noted.
The head of the region also noted that the project fully meets the goals outlined in the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On National development Goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036" in terms of achieving the national goal "Technological leadership" to ensure technological independence and the formation of markets for new materials.
