The first meeting of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation was held in Moscow under the chairmanship of Assistant to the President of Russia Nikolai Patrushev. The meeting was attended by the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis.
The head of the region reported on the planned projects for the development of the region – the creation of a shipyard and the need to expand the carrying capacity of the Murmansk transport hub.
"Earlier, Nikolai Platonovich has already supported us in these areas. And today, all the participants of the Maritime Board noted the importance of implementing such projects in the Murmansk region. We are working further to achieve final decisions on them," Andrei Chibis commented after the meeting.
It should be noted that the Maritime Board was established by Presidential Decree No. 691 of August 13, 2024 in order to ensure the implementation of the national maritime policy, protect the national interests of the Russian Federation and strengthen its defense capability in the oceans.
At the first meeting, special attention was paid to maritime activities aimed at the socio-economic development of the country and the coastal territories, as well as the development of foreign economic relations.
The issues of ensuring strategic stability in the oceans and protecting national interests in the Arctic were also considered. The issues related to domestic shipbuilding, the development of port facilities, the connection of seaports with inland waterways and international transport corridors were touched upon.
Recall that Russian Presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev paid a working visit to the Murmansk region at the beginning of last week. During the trip, Nikolai Patrushev visited a number of industrial enterprises, including the Lavna seaport and FSUE Atomflot, assessed the existing infrastructure and promising sites for new projects in the port of Murmansk and on the western shore of the Kola Bay, and also visited the city of submariners Gadzhievo. In addition, Nikolai Patrushev held a meeting in the regional government on ensuring national interests in the Arctic and the development of shipbuilding and port facilities in the Murmansk region.
