Lavna commercial Sea port shipped 1.4 million tons of coal: a new stage in the development of MTU

The Lavna Commercial Seaport demonstrates a steady development trend. During the first year of operation, from March 2025 to March 2026, the volume of coal shipped reached 1.4 million tons. This was announced by the head of the region, making a report at the Forum of Supporters of the United Russia party. It should be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the shipment of the first batch of coal in March 2025 within the framework of the International Arctic Forum in Murmansk, marking the commissioning of the port.

Lavna became the first port built in the region since Soviet times. To date, work traffic has also been launched to the port along the Weekend—Lavna railway line. The launch of a modern coal transshipment terminal not only opens up new export opportunities for Russian coal miners, but also gives a start to the environmental transformation of the regional center: coal facilities will gradually be withdrawn from the city limits," said Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, Secretary of the regional branch of the United Russia Party.
The construction of the Lavna commercial seaport on the western shore of the Kola Bay is a central project within the Murmansk transport hub. The successful operation of the port demonstrates the effectiveness of government policy in the Arctic and confirms the status of the Murmansk Region as a key logistics hub of the Northern Sea Route and the Transarctic transport Corridor.

The total investment in the creation of the Lavna port exceeded 87 billion rubles. The terminal's design capacity will be 18 million tons of coal per year, with the prospect of increasing to 24 million tons. Today, the port's readiness has exceeded 96%, and almost 1,000 people are involved in the construction.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the national program "Live in the North!" and will create additional port facilities to ensure stable year–round exports of products to world markets, as well as create new opportunities for the development of the port infrastructure of the port of Murmansk.
