Sergey Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, is working in the Murmansk Region. During the working visit, together with the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis, the minister visited the Kola wind farm, where he got acquainted with the work of the world's largest wind farm beyond the Arctic circle.
The Minister stressed that the main purpose of the visit to the Murmansk region is to work out a roadmap for the implementation of a large–scale gasification project in the region.
"The issue of gasification has historically stood for a long time, but has not been resolved. Andrey Vladimirovich showed initiative and perseverance, met with the President, talked about the project, and the President supported it. This is very important – he was able to achieve results. Gasification is, of course, very important to people, they are waiting for it, but it is also a major industrial development in the Murmansk region. The Murmansk industrial cluster will provide jobs for perhaps a third of the country. The region will act as a customer for many industries located on the territory of the Russian Federation, such as equipment, materials and so on. This is a huge job," said Sergey Tsivilev.
The wind farm consists of 57 turbines with a total capacity of 202 MW. The facility is located on an area of 257 hectares and generates about 750 million kWh per year, which prevents CO2 emissions annually.
During his visit to the Kola WPP, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation got acquainted in detail with the work of wind turbines, assessed the scale of the work carried out, noting that the Murmansk region has a huge industrial potential.
Also today, with the participation of the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev, meetings will be held on gasification of the Murmansk region and on the development and reliability of the Kola energy system.
"The first task is the topic of gasification. This is the most important investment and infrastructure project for us. The second topic is everything related to reliable power supply. To date, we have an excess of capacity, but the implementation of the LNG project, the decision on which was made by the President, supporting our initiative, those projects for processing gas, the raw materials that we extract, ports, the development of the Murmansk transport hub – they also require energy supply, require capacity and strength. This is the subject of a detailed discussion with all participants. I would like to thank Sergey Evgenievich for his support, because the issues that we will discuss today are of strategic importance for our region," Andrei Chibis said.
