A working online meeting was held between the Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region Tatiana Ruskova and representatives of the South African province of the Eastern Cape, headed by a member of the Executive Council - Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Mr. Mlungisi Mvoko. The event was moderated by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town Alexey Malenko.
During the meeting, Tatiana Russkova spoke about the economic profile and prospects for the development of the region, focusing in detail on the high potential for the development of the mining industry, transport infrastructure, fisheries and ship repair complexes, and also touched upon the topics of scientific and educational resources, the development of tourist and recreational clusters in the Kola Arctic.
In turn, the Director of Trade and Investment of the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Protection and Tourism of the Eastern Cape, Mr. Sia Lazarus, presented the economic profile of the province and the territories of advanced development.
The parties outlined the main areas of cooperation, on which joint study and search for specific points of interaction will begin.
"There is a developed industrial complex in the Eastern Cape, which produces components, spare parts for equipment and machinery that may be of interest to enterprises of various sectors of the economy of our region. It is also worth paying attention to the possibilities of organizing the exchange of experience of specialists," said the Minister of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region.
Attention was also paid to the potential for the development of cooperation in the fields of tourism, inter-municipal cooperation, cultural and sports ties.
Russia and the Republic of South Africa are actively coordinating their efforts within the framework of BRICS and in other multilateral formats. The interest of the regions of our country and the provinces of the Republic of South Africa in establishing full-scale cooperation is becoming more pronounced.
