Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, held a working meeting with Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, in Moscow today. The focus is on the construction of the infrastructure of the Arctic Capital TOP, the extension of the action plan for the development of communal, energy and social infrastructure of closed administrative–territorial formations and settlements of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (in which military formations are stationed) until 2030, as well as the development of a development plan for the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
"On behalf of the President of Russia, we are actively working to update strategic documents on the development of the Arctic – the Foundations of state policy and Strategy for the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. It is important not only to maintain continuity of plans until 2035, but also to set long-term benchmarks until 2050. This will ensure the sustainable development of the macroregion, strengthen its transport and technological potential, and guarantee national security in high latitudes," said Alexey Chekunkov.
The head of the region, Andrey Chibis, emphasized the special importance of further joint cooperation.
"Cooperation between the federal center and the regions will allow us to systematically solve key tasks of the Arctic development, turning this strategically important macroregion into a driver of Russia's economic growth," the governor emphasized.
A single action plan will combine the key areas of work for the long term. The priority is to support science, launch new industrial projects and develop transport infrastructure.
